Drive New Zealand Classic Trial Tour

The Drive NZ Classic is a Competitive 17 day Classic Enthusiasts Race Circuit tour of New Zealand, and includes all accommodation packages and all inclusive adventure tours and ferry crossings.

Commencing Sat 8th October 2011 with Timed Regularity Trials at Pukekohe, and Manfield circuits, crossing to the South Island to take part at Teretonga & Ruapuna circuits, returning to the North Island to complete the Taupo and Hampton Downs circuits.

  Adventure Tours

Entrants take part in jet boat, helicopter Glacier landings, skeet shooting, Winery, Vintage aircraft & Car Museum/Restoration visits, with optional Pitt Special, and Paragliding xtreme sports tours.

The main focus of the event is to provide a unique experience utilizing New Zealands spectacular scenery and traffic free roads in the Spring, where the vista is at it’s finest and the tourist season is quiet.

This competitive event is open to all road legal special interest and classic vehicles, and as such provides an economical opportunity for owners to enjoy their vehicles on road & track without expensive modification or chequebook racing.

  Car and Crew Requirements

  • A radio equipped service/support crew accompanies the tour, and in car to car radio communication is provided.

 

  • A 1.9kg powder extinguisher and dual trip meter are the only required in car fitment.

 

  • Crash helmets and fire proof overalls are required for track days only.
Car & Crew

 

  • Cars may have more than 1 clubsport licensed driver on track days.

 

  • The Full tour includes an average daily start time of 8.30am, a 350km/day touring average, a 4-5pm completion target, and a heavily active evening social ingredient.

 

  • Cars imported for the event will require Carnets to obtain NZ registration.

 

  • All competitors will be required to participate on a NZ Clubsport or equivalent foreign license.

 

  • Entry fees cover all track days, Ferry crossings, tours, hotel accommodation (4 Star) for a car and crew of 2 people.

 

  • Service Crews are Not permitted.

 

  Track Days

Track days are run under private disclaimer hire, with entrants able to participate under  controlled conditions without being monstered by faster, or held up by slower cars.

All NZ road rules apply on public roads. Cars are expected to cover 5000km, including over 25 hours of track time over the full 17 day tour.

Entrants are responsible for Fuel, Meals, and car recovery.

A list of 98 octane fuel outlets will be provided in the route book.
(Note: 98 octane availability in the lower South island is limited and may need to be preordered for Teretonga)

Stage 1: 4 days; 2 x racetracks. Stage 44 days; 2 x Racetracks.

Full tour entrants take preference, max entry 30 cars/stage, minimum 20 cars.

  Overseas Competitors Full Tour Car Options

  1. DNZC can arrange to ship your car FOB exit Port of Origin to Auckland and return at very competitive rates. A RoRo ex Melbourne/Sydney is approx NZ$4,000 return, ex Longbeach USA approx NZ$7,000 return, Porstmouth UK approx NZ$7,000 return. Exchange rates vary but at time of writing NZS= .78A$ .70US$, .43PSterling. DNZC will arrange inspection and NZ registration on arrival, and fit the correct livery and numbers for the event. Charges for this are listed on the entry form. Step off the plane at the airport and your car will be waiting, cleaned and ready to go!
  2. DNZC can arrange for you to purchase a car of your choice in NZ. This may have advantages if you are in the market for a Classic Car as NZ car prices are world competitive with a comprehensive pool of good quality, well priced Classic Cars.  Re-import and licensing costs on cars over 30-40 years old are minimal, which may return a profit on your purchase if you wish to on-sell in your home market on return. Alternatively DNZC can sell your car in NZ for you after departure with a guaranteed buy back. Your car will be checked, serviced, liveried and cleaned, waiting for you on arrival.
  3. DNZC can arrange Sports car hire for the full tour and track event. Cars available at very reasonable rates include MGF, Mazda MX5, Porsche Boxster, 911 Cabrio, 993 Cabrio. Obviously limited cars are available on a first come first served basis, contact roger@drivenzclassic.com for rates and details to meet your budget.
    Charges range from $2,000 to $10,000 for the full 14 day (4 Stage) minimum.
